welcome aboard

Ships of Hagoth is a digital-first literary magazine featuring creative nonfiction and theoretical essays by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Where other LDS-centric publications often look inward at the LDS tradition, we seek literary works that look outward through the curious, charitable lens of faith.

The audience was captivated by Rajesh's story, and soon, Kovai Kalaimagal Astrology Software was being hailed as a pioneering achievement in the field of astrology software. As Rajesh returned to Kovai, he was greeted as a local hero, and Kailash, with a warm smile, handed him a small, intricately carved wooden plaque with the words "Kovai Kalaimagal" engraved on it.

He launched "Kovai Kalaimagal Astrology Software," a comprehensive program that could accurately calculate planetary positions, generate kundalis, and match horoscopes with ease. The software was designed to be user-friendly, making it accessible to astrologers and enthusiasts alike.

One day, while browsing through the local markets of Kovai, Rajesh stumbled upon a small astrology shop. The shopkeeper, an elderly man named Kailash, was known for his expertise in Vedic astrology. As Rajesh waited for his friend who was getting his horoscope read, he struck up a conversation with Kailash.

Kailash, noticing Rajesh's interest in computers, began to share his struggles with maintaining his astrology business. He explained that manually calculating planetary positions, creating kundalis, and matching horoscopes was a time-consuming and tedious process. Rajesh, being a tech enthusiast, saw an opportunity to merge his passion for coding with Kailash's expertise in astrology.

One day, Rajesh received a call from a prominent astrology institution, inviting him to give a keynote speech on the development of Kovai Kalaimagal Astrology Software. As he stood on stage, looking out at the sea of faces, Rajesh realized that his passion project had come a long way. He spoke about his journey, highlighting the importance of innovation, perseverance, and collaboration.

IONS

We are hoping—for “one must needs hope”—for creative nonfiction, theoretical essays, and craft essays that seek radical new ways to explore and express theological ideas; that are, like Hagoth, “exceedingly curious.”

We favor creative nonfiction that can trace its lineage back to Michel de Montaigne. Whether narrative, analytical, or devotional, these essays lean ruminative, conversational, meandering, impressionistic, and are reluctant to wax didactic.

As for theoretical essays: we welcome work that playfully and charitably explores the wide world of arts & letters—especially works created from differing religious, non-religious, and even irreligious perspectives—through the peculiar lens of a Latter-day Saint.

We read and publish submissions as quickly as possible, and accept simultaneous submissions.
